Talk:Fiery Furnaces Wiki

From Blueberry Boat

I'd love it if more people had a go at updating this Wiki-doohickey, to keep it from becoming stagnant! --ZombieBlues 10:10, 7 February 2007 (PST) (PDT)

Updating Info

The "News Section" is mainly selected highlights from theFF.net's News Page, theFF.com message board, a Google News page with "Fiery Furnaces" typed in (which can lead to some religious articles sometimes), and some of the more relevant happenings from this website.

New pages can be found on Other Pages.

Video Streaming sites such as YouTube and Google Video can have interesting stuff on them.

A few of the links on the "Media" Page are outdated (sendspace ones at the moment). Though I've never really been happy with my layout, and the comments are mainly lifted from the original FF.com message board's Media Repository, or brief ones by myself.

Buy Albums is often outdated, and I haven't much experience of internet shopping in the US. (I only lived states-side in the early days of the internet). I made it because I think I read somewhere that the albums average 30,000 purchases (maybe) which didn't seem high enough to me, and I thought it would be sensible to point people in the right directions.

Live performances is more important in my opinion.

I would ideally like to go back over old lyrics, and make them agree with the sung version (diehard fans should already own the physical albums with lyrics - though there's no reason not to archive them if they're already there). ITunes downloaders, pirates etc. can cope with the sung versions.

Tropical Ice-Land should have two sets of lyrics in my opinion. As there's two versions!

Downloads

I've taken off a downloadable FaceCulture link from the media section as they complained in the FF-forum about their link. I quote: "RIPPING AND ZIPPING NOT ALLOWED!! READ OUR LEGAL PAGE. WE HAVE YOUR DETAILS." The last bit was slightly harsh in my opinion. Not sure who they were referring to, and I doubt that they do either.

There's also some early versions of Gallowsbird's Bark that I've omitted - just because I feel they are not significantly different to the released versions. Maybe one or two songs could justify a separate download. --ZombieBlues 16:33, 11 October 2006 (PDT)

Style

I try to think of satisfying a music pedant friend of mine when I do things:

  • Song titles are from the backs of the album. There is some BB confusion with alternative names (not too sure where it's come from), and inconsistency between the back and lyrics of WW/HGLS. "Betcha Don't" is listed as "Becha Don't" for this reason.
  • I've tried to stick with original Wikipedia good practice of putting evidence and links to sources. (eg. in the Upcoming Albums Page). Though original 'research' and writing, photos, whatever is welcome here! If anyone happens to get an interview with the Friedbergers, please feel free to post it here!
  • The most annoying thing that I've done is Anglicise all the dates I've entered - Day/Month/Year. It just makes so much more sense for comparing orders in long lists of dates.
  • I try to keep the News Page relevant - about a month for most things such as article links, shorter for outdated, boring site stuff, which I move into contents, longer for 'important stuff' (such as the Japanese Slippers link which I intend to keep up either until the next FF release, or it comes up again... - despite WW/HGLS it is still 'the new' FF song.

Which leads me to:

  • This is a Fiery Furnace fan site, so I have decided to distinguish it from Matt's solo work. Obviously Matt stuff is still relevant to the users, so just keep it relevant/separate/identified. Otherwise Eleanor may feel neglected! (plus the whole pedantry thing).

Anyway, the more the merrier! --ZombieBlues 19:15, 12 September 2006 (PDT)
